§ 65. Mr. Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is satisfied with the operation of the Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act 1977; and if he will make a statement about progress achieved under its provisions.
§ Mr. Guy BarnettYes. The Act was intended to remove certain weaknesses in the system of planning control and thus enable local planning authorities to operate more effectively. There is no evidence to suggest these objectives have not been achieved by the Act. We are keeping its progress under review, but at present I have no information on the basis of which to make a fuller statement.
