Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Transport in the light of the large number of potholes and dangerous roads following the lack of repairs due to the cutdown on money allocated for this purpose, to what extent he estimates that accidents and loss of life have been caused by the dangerous condition of the roads; and if he will take steps to reduce the amount to be spent on the seat belts campaign and increase the sums to be spent on road maintenance.

Class VI of Schedule 1 of the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1977 permits building or engineering operations requisite for the use of land for the purposes of agriculture, subject to certain limitations of size. The definition of agriculture includesthe breeding and keeping of livestock (including any creature kept for the production of food)". We are advised that fish farms producing fish for food come within this definition.
