§ Mr. GoldingI regret I am unable to give information in the form requested. During 1976, £56.1 million were spent by way of temporary employment subsidy in Great Britain. The figure for 1977 was £169.7 million. The estimated totals of subsidy authorised on a cumulative basis—assuming maximum period of payment in each case—as at 31st December 1976 and 31st December 1977 are given by region in the table below. A separate scheme operates in Northern Ireland and is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
