§ Mr. Buchanan-Smithasked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he has received regarding his proposals to suspend temporarily duties on the import of various species of white fish; what opportunity there is for consultation with the fishing industry; and what estimate he has made of the effect of such a suspension of duty on fish prices.
§ Mr. MeacherAn application has been received by my Department for temporary suspension of the duties on certain of the main white fish species for use by the processing industry. In accordance with my Department's normal practice, representations have been invited from interested organisations, and these are138W being considered. It is too early to say what the Government's attitude will be. It is difficult to predict the effects of tariff cuts in isolation from other factors which affect fish prices.
