HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 c51W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many X-ray units are operational in England and Wales.

Mr. Moyle

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to diagnostic X-ray facilities, and regret that the information is not available in precisely the form requested. In 1975, the latest date for which figures are readily available, there were some 1,260 National Health Service hospitals in England and Wales having diagnostic radiology departments. In addition there were 37 mobile, and 19 static, mass miniature radiography units. The number of chest clinics having X-ray facilities but not forming part of hospital radiology departments is unfortunately not available.
