HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 cc40-1W
Mr. Freud

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) whether he will publish in the Official Report details of the cost, and financial support for the import of Polish onions;

(2) what representations he has had regarding disease of onions imported from Poland; and if he will make a statement;

(3) what has been the overall volume and cost of onions imported from Poland.

Mr. Strang

The United Kingdom imported 1,300 tonnes of onions valued at £351,000 from Poland in 1976, the latest year for which complete trade statistics are available. There is no financial support for such imports which, on the contrary, pay an import duty of 12 per cent. No representations have been received regarding diseases of onions imported from this source.
