HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 cc66-7W
Mr. Wm Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list in the Official Report the 12 grammar schools in Northern Ireland where the Department of Education nominees for management committees have not yet been named, showing the number of vacancies; and how many in each case are casual vacancies.

Mr. Carter

The 12 grammar schools in Northern Ireland where Department of Education for Northern Ireland nominees for management committees have not yet been named and the number of vacancies for each school are as follows:

NAME OF SCHOOL AND NO. OF VACANCIES
Controlled Grammar Schools
Limavady Grammar School 4
Portadown College 5
Lurgan College 4
Voluntary Grammar Schools
Sacred Heart of Mary Grammar, Holywood 2
Ballymena Academy 7
Loreto Convent, Omagh 4
Sullivan Upper School, Holywood 7
Royal School, Armagh 6
Belfast High School 5
Our Lady's Grammar School, Newry 3
Sacred Heart Grammar School, Newry 4
Rathmore Grammar School, Belfast 4

These vacancies exist because the term of office of Department of Education for Northern Ireland nominees has expired and successors have not yet been appointed. There are no vacancies arising from casual resignations or absences.

Mr. Wm Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list in the Official Report the grammar schools in Northern Ireland, and the number of Department of Education and the number of other nominees to the management committees, respectively; and what was the body or institution from which the nominees other than those of the Department came.

Mr. Carter

I regret that the information is not readily available; and I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
