Mr. Ian Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will consider asking hospital casualty and emergency departments to provide figures on the number of admissions of patients suffering drug overdoses.

The annual hospital inpatient inquiry report includes estimates of the number of patients admitted to National Health Service hospitals suffering from (a) adverse effects of medicinal agents and (b) toxic effects of chiefly non-medicinal substances.
