§ 36. Mr. David Priceasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action he intends to take in the Security Council of the United Nations to end the fighting in the Horn of Africa.
§ 47. Mr. James Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will raise in the United Nations Security Council the fighting in the Ogaden between Somalia and Ethiopia as a threat to the peace of the region.
§ Dr. OwenI would refer the hon. Gentleman and my hon. Friend to my remarks in the House on 18th January in reply to the right hon. Member for Brighton, Pavilion (Mr. Amery).—[Vol. 942, c. 451–59.] As I made clear then, we have supported the OAU mediation efforts and believe that the conflict should be settled within an African context and without outside interference. The British Government would be prepared to support an approach to the Security Council if this seemed likely to help work out a basis for a settlement.
