HC Deb 15 February 1978 vol 944 cc287-8W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will now take steps to amend the Revaluation (Consequential Provisions) Order (NI) 1976 in such a way as to avoid financial loss to persons to whom home loss payments have to be made under that order compared with the sums they would have received under the old multiplier; and if he will also seek to amend the 1976 Order to take account of the inflation which has occurred since 1973.

Mr. Dunn,

pursuant to the reply [Official Report, 13th February 1978; Vol. 944, c. 93], gave the following information:

No. The Revaluation (Consequential Provisions) Order (NI) 1976 is consequential upon the third general revaluation of Northern Ireland which in general brought Northern Ireland valuation levels into parity with those in England and Wales. The order follows the provisions of rating legislation in England and Wales as regards the multiplier of 3 to be used to calculate home loss. Any alterations to the law in England and Wales would be applied in Northern Ireland.
