HL Deb 02 February 1978 vol 388 cc918-9WA
Lord ENERGLYN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What precise steps does the Secretary of State envisage as being appropriate to honour the Government's pledge to rectify the university teachers' pay anomaly.

The MINISTER of STATE, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION and SCIENCE (Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge)

Negotiations on the pay of university teachers are now in progress between officials of the Department of Education and Science and the representatives of the university authorities and of the university teachers. The noble Lord will understand that I cannot anticipate the outcome of those negotiations.
