HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 c277W
43. Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the estimated number of family groups still waiting overseas to join their families already in the United Kingdom and who have a legal right to come to the United Kingdom; and what is the average length of time they have been waiting.

Dr. Summerskill

The number of people in the Sub-Continent awaiting the processing of applications for settlement to join relatives settled here is estimated to have been about 30,000 at the end of November 1977. In November 1977 the waiting time varied between six months at New Delhi and 18 months at Dacca.
