HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 cc307-8W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will hold an inquiry into the role and methods of the Defence Sales Organisation and those of British armament manufacturers in selling military products overseas.

Mr. Mulley

No.

Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he is taking to prevent a repetition of the events disclosed in the court case involving Racal and a military officer attached to the Defence Sales Organisation.

Mr. Mulley

Corrupt practices by the directors or employees of a company are a matter for the company concerned and for the police. The staff of the Defence Sales Organisation are likewise subject to the criminal law on corruption. Like other public servants, they are also subject to strict rules governing their official conduct.

Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the guidelines on relations between Racal and the Defence Sales Organisation.

Mr. Mulley

Relations between Racal and the Defence Sales Organisation reflect the Organisation's role of advising on and supporting the overseas sales efforts of the defence industry in the United Kingdom.
