HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 c323W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why, in view of the long-standing practice that he will not reveal matters in anticipation of his Budget statements, he had discussions on the question of profit sharing in industry with the hon. Member for Cornwall, North (Mr. Pardoe); and on what date this meeting took place.

Mr. Joel Barnett

My colleagues and I frequently discuss matters concerning taxation with outside parties. These discussions facilitate the framing of our detailed proposals. Such consultations, some of which involve hon. and right hon. Members, take place throughout the year. In accordance with this custom I have discussed profit sharing with both the hon. Member for Cornwall, North (Mr. Pardoe) and other interested people.
