HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 cc272-3W
32. Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he now expects to implement the Littlewood Report.

Dr. Summerskill

We have no present plans for legislation on this report, but action has recently been taken on certain of its recommendations. Many of the remainder endorsed the retention of existing controls or proposed giving statutory force to existing practice.

40. Mr. Terry Walker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to receive the report of the review of the regulations on experiments on living animals.

Dr. Summerskill

The administration of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876 which regulates experiments on living animals, is kept under continuing review within the Department, but there are no regulations made under that Act and there is no general review in hand likely to result in a report. If my hon. Friend has in mind the study of the LD50 test being undertaken by the advisory committee on the administration of the Act, we expect to receive the report of that study later this year.
