HC Deb 15 December 1978 vol 960 c554W
Mr. Crawford

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the value of the loss to livestock in Scotland as a result of summer mastitis in 1978.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown:

No separate estimate of livestock losses from summer mastitis is available. However, I am advised that an investigation carried out in 1977 indicated that under 2 per cent. of Buckler cows in Scotland were affected by the disease.

A survey of the incidence of the disease in dairy cattle in Scotland in 1978 is being carried out but the result will not be known for some months.
