§ Mr. Crawfordasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the value of the loss to livestock in Scotland as a result of summer mastitis in 1978.
§ Mr. Hugh D. Brown:No separate estimate of livestock losses from summer mastitis is available. However, I am advised that an investigation carried out in 1977 indicated that under 2 per cent. of Buckler cows in Scotland were affected by the disease.
A survey of the incidence of the disease in dairy cattle in Scotland in 1978 is being carried out but the result will not be known for some months.
