§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will issue guidance to local authorities and other interested bodies on the need to build houses with chimneys and to introduce schemes to convert chimneyless houses so that they will be able to use solid fuel.
§ Mr. Hugh D. Brown:I think that the choice of heating systems, whether for new or existing dwellings, must be left 684W authorities, the teaching unions, the Consultative Committee on the Curriculum and other bodies prior to the abolition of the department of Celtic studies at Jordanhill college of education ;

§ Mr. McElhone:In the present and the two previous sessions the numbers of students in Scottish colleges of education taking a teaching qualification in Gaelic have been as follows:
to each housing authority or other owner to decide in the light of local needs and circumstances. The basic requirements for heating in all new houses, including the installation of chimneys where appropriate, are specified in the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations, which leave open the choice of fuel and appliance.
