§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, when appointing members to committees of inquiry into matters of public controversy, and so on, he will publish the applications and biographical details of those concerned, if any, and what connections they have had with the industries or other issues likely to be raised during the inquiry.
§ Mr. Shore:When announcing appointments of members to committes of inquiry my Department issues short biographical details of members including their principal appointments.
Every effort is made before making a public appointment to avoid risks of conflict between an appointee's personal interests and the requirements of his appointment.
