§ Mr. Robin F. Cookasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his latest estimate of the likely total expenditure on the steam generated heavy-water reactor programme; and what contributions are made by the electricity authorities to this expenditure.
§ Mr. EadieThe United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority spent about £145 million net on research and development for the steam generating heavy-water reactor between the start of work on the system and 31st March 1978. The Central Electricity Generating Board has not contributed to this expenditure. I am asking the chairman of the CEGB to write to the hon. Member about the board's own expenditure on research and development in connection with the system. The Scottish boards are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
