HC Deb 02 August 1978 vol 955 cc461-2W
Mr. Miscampbell

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representation he has received on the present standard and level of road maintenance in Lancashire.

Mr. Horam

Since the beginning of this year I have received four representations concerning the maintenance of local roads in Lancashire. That county together with other highway authorities is participating in a series of extensive surveys of road condition to monitor the situation.

Mr. Jim Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how much was spent per mile on roads in the Manchester county districts for each of the last three years for which figures are available.

Mr. Horam

I regret that the information is not available for county districts. However, for Greater Manchester as a whole, expenditure per mile of road in use at the end of each of the respective years was about £8,500 in 1974–75, about £10,150 in 1975–76 and about £12,760 in 1976–77; based on prices prevailing at the time.
