Mr. George Gardiner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the percentage of the work force engaged in (a) manufacturing industry, and (b) central and local government employment in the following countries, namely: the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Italy, Japan, France, West Germany, and Canada.

The following table gives the percentage of the civilian labour force engaged in the manufacturing industries—defined as Orders III to XIX of the Standard Industrial Classification—in 1976:
