§ Mr. Cantasked the Secretary of State for Transport why he has decided that the M54 Telford motorway should be constructed with dual two-lane carriageways instead of dual three-lane carriageways previously proposed; and what arrangements will be made to permit the carriageways to be widened easily at a later date if this should be necessary.
§ Mr. HoramThe standard has been determined in the normal way based on the forecast traffic flow. This does not indicate any need to allow for future widening but an extra lane could be added without widening structures by omitting the hardshoulder on and under bridges.
