HC Deb 02 August 1978 vol 955 c344W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will install a telephone answering or recording system in smaller British embassies which have no night staff.

Mr. Tomlinson

It has been normal practice for over 10 years to provide answering devices at British embassies and consulates wherever there was an apparent need. Where practicable these have been rented from the local telephone authority; otherwise equipment has been provided by my right hon. Friend's Department from the United Kingdom. If the hon. Member has any particular post in mind my right hon. Friend will be glad to consider it.
