HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c234W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in the light of the introduction by Hull University of remedial classes for students and an extension of some degree courses from three to four years, if she will initiate an inquiry into the admission standards of the universities.

Mr. Oakes

I am informed that there are no remedial classes at the University of Hull. There is no evidence to suggest that the general level of intellectual ability among students has declined, and my right hon. Friend sees no need for an inquiry into the admission standards of the universities.
