HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c205W
15. Mr. Goodhart

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the present unemployment level in Greater London; and what plans he has to increase employment opportunities in the Greater London council area.

Mr. John Grant

On 6th July the unemployment rate for Greater London was 4.1 per cent. The special employment measures introduced by my Department and the Manpower Services Commission have so far helped over 33,000 people in Greater London and are being further developed by the introduction of the youth opportunities programme and the special temporary employment programme. The recently extended small firms employment subsidy will be of value in promoting employment opportunities in the three inner city partnership areas of London.
