HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c194W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons and how many New Commonwealth citizens were prevented from entry during the past three weeks.

Mr. John

To obtain information for the period specified would involve disproportionate cost. In the first quarter of 1978, 2,988 people were refused entry at the ports of whom 829 were citizens of New Commonwealth countries.
