§ Mr. Monroasked the Secretary of State for Transport if his Department has carried out tests on the use of air deflectors on the cabs of commercial vehicles; and, if so, what saving in fuel can be achieved.
§ Mr. HoramTests carried out by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory suggest that fuel savings of about 5 per cent. could be achieved by the installation of air deflectors on a lorry carrying a laden container and travelling at 60 m.p.h. The savings would fall sharply as speed was reduced and would also depend on factors such as vehicle design and loading.
