HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c299W
Mr. Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if his Department has carried out tests on the use of air deflectors on the cabs of commercial vehicles; and, if so, what saving in fuel can be achieved.

Mr. Horam

Tests carried out by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory suggest that fuel savings of about 5 per cent. could be achieved by the installation of air deflectors on a lorry carrying a laden container and travelling at 60 m.p.h. The savings would fall sharply as speed was reduced and would also depend on factors such as vehicle design and loading.
