HC Deb 26 April 1978 vol 948 cc562-3W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what research his Department is undertaking into the advantages of trains for urban transport; and if he will make a statement on the current use of trains in cities in other EEC countries.

Mr. William Rodgers

The Transport and Road Research Laboratory is undertaking a review of the potential for light rail, including trams, in Great Britain. This work should be completed, and a report published, shortly.

The review takes into account current practice in those EEC countries which have light rail, and tramway, systems.
