Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) how many deaths resulted from accidents involving stolen cars on Merseyside in each of the past five years;

(2) how many people have been injured in accidents involving stolen cars on Merseyside in each of the past five years;

(3) how many people have been injured in accidents involving stolen cars in Liverpool, Scotland Exchange in each of the past five years;

(4) how many people have been killed in accidents involving stolen cars in Liverpool, Scotland Exchange in each of the past five years.

Statistics of road accidents in local areas are a matter for the local authorities concerned. I suggest

Notes:
1. The figures for 1976 and 1977 are the most up-to-date available and therefore differ slightly from hose published in the 1976 and 1977 versions of Civil Service Statistics. The figures used are those which will appear in the 1978 edition, which is to be published in July 1978.
2. The Administration Group comprises the former Clerical. Executive and Administrative grades. The 1st January 1975 figure for this Group includes 43,000 staff who were transferred to the Social Security Group upon its creation on 1st April 1975.
3. Staff of the Manpower Services Commission and its Agencies were not counted as civil servants until 1st January 1976, the number of such staff included in the 1st January 1976 figure is 20,800.
4. The Professional and Technology Group does not include members of the professions such as doctors and lawyers. There are separate occupational groupings for these professions and their numbers are separately identified in Civil Service Statistics.
5. Part-time staff are counted as half units and casual staff are excluded.
