HC Deb 26 April 1978 vol 948 cc609-10W
Mr. Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will state, by number of bedrooms, how many Housing Executive units in Newry No. 1 District are: (a) unoccupied, (b) under construction, and (c) authorised; and what guidance he proposes to give to the Executive in the light of these figures.

Mr. Carter

Information about the number of unoccupied premises at any given time is a matter for the Housing Executive. Schemes at present under construction in the Newry Urban Area include 332 dwellings of which 53 contain one bedroom, 45 contain two bedrooms, 165 contain three bedrooms, and 69 contain four bedrooms. The executive is currently reviewing, in consultation with district councils, its five-year housing programme for Northern Ireland in the light of the latest information on housing need and will shortly be submitting proposals to the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland with which housing programmes are generally drawn up. I do not propose to give the executive any specific guidance about the Newry area.
