§ 54. Sir A. Meyerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his current estimate of the time needed to complete the enlargement of the EEC to include Greece, Spain and Portugal.
§ Mr. JuddNegotiations with Greece are currently under way. We expect the Commission's opinion on the Portuguese application to be submitted to the Council in May and that on Spain early next year. Until these opinions have been submitted and progress has been made in subsequent negotiations it would be premature to forecast when the process of enlargement to twelve, to which we are fully committed, will be completed.
§ 61. Mr. Moateasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress towards enlargement of the EEC.
§ Mr. JuddI would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave earlier this afternoon to the hon. Member for Flint, West (Sir A. Meyer).
