HC Deb 26 April 1978 vol 948 c583W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the Claims Commission promised by the Turkish Cypriot Administration has yet started processing the claims of United Kingdom citizens who suffered loss and injury as a result of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.

Mr. Judd

The Claims Commission will not start functioning until its terms of reference have been published. I understand that these are now ready but their publication remains delayed because of a legal technicality. Firm representations have been made to the Turkish Cypriot Administration about the urgency with which the British Government view this issue and the High Commissioner in Nicosia has this week delivered a personal message from me urging the prompt approval of the Claims Commission's terms of reference and its commencement of work on claims by United Kingdom nationals.
