§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the serious loss of real income and capital value experienced by elderly persons who purchased War Loan before 1930, if he has given consideration to compensating such long-term holds of the stock.
§ Mr. Denzil Davies, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 21st April 1978], gave the following information:
Sympathetic consideration has been given to several methods of helping holders of War Loan, particularly the elderly, but the Government have been forced to conclude that any scheme for compensating any particular group of holders would inevitably be unfair.
