HC Deb 24 April 1978 vol 948 c421W
Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any special plans to bring the police forces in the immigrant reception areas up to strength.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The size of immigrant communities in a force area is not a relevant factor in determining the assistance my Department gives to chief officers in connection with recruitment up to authorised establishment. This assistance benefits all forces, with some special emphasis on the forces covering the big cities, which have relatively high deficiencies in police strength.
