HC Deb 24 April 1978 vol 948 cc437-8W
Mr. Sims

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons, at the most recent convenient date, were receiving from the Supplementary Benefits Commission benefits part or all of which were paid in lieu of maintenance awarded by the courts but not received.

Mr. Orme

About 150,000 of almost 3 million people receiving supplementary benefit in December 1976 had maintenance orders awarded by magistrates' or county courts, or the High Court. It is not possible to say how many were receiving less than the full amount of maintenance.
