§ Mr. Georgeasked the Secretary of State for Employment if, in view of the current industrial disputes at Garners Steak Houses and Claridge's Hotel, he will institute an inquiry into the wages, employment, conditions and industrial relations in the hotel and catering industry.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerI understand from the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service that recognition claims in relation to employees at both Garners and Claridge's Hotel have been made under Section 11 of the Employment Protection Act 1975 and that these are being dealt with by ACAS The Commission on Industrial Relations carried out detailed studies of industrial relations in the industry (CIR reports Nos. 23 and 27, 1971–72). In the circumstances, I doubt whether any immediate useful purpose would be served by a further inquiry of this kind at present.
