asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will make a statement on the future of the pilot schemes of unified vocational preparation.

In order to build on the experience gained since the programme of pilot schemes began in 1976, the Government have decided to authorise an extension of the programme until July 1981. This will provide the opportunity for more local education authorities, industrial

training boards and others to take part in the programme, which is being run jointly by the Education Departments and the Manpower Services Commission. Experience gained during the extended programme will influence the planning of future provision for the 16–19 age group.
