HC Deb 11 April 1978 vol 947 c396W
Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much money has been allocated to galleries by purchase grants and special contributions for the purchase of individual pictures during the last three years.

Mr. Oakes

The purchase grants given to the national institutions in England during the last three years, including special contributions, are tabulated below. It is not possible to indicate what proportion of the original grants is spent on acquiring pictures as opposed to other objects, as it is the museum's responsibility to decide on the use of their purchase grants. For the sake of completeness all supplementary provision has been shown.
