HC Deb 10 April 1978 vol 947 c293W
Mr. Tom King

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether any estimate has been made of what addition would be needed on the building cost yardstick to include the cost of a chimney provision in new council houses.

Mr. Armstrong

The housing cost yardstick does not relate to dwellings of any particular specification or type of construction. It is estimated that the provision of a brick chimney stack in a typical three-bedroom five-person house will add between 2 per cent. and 5 per cent. to the cost, depending on whether it is centrally placed or on a party wall.
