HC Deb 10 April 1978 vol 947 cc301-2W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when the Greenwich Community Industry Scheme is likely to be provided with an office in the borough; and what steps are currently being taken to secure suitable premises.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the borough councils of Greenwich and Lewisham have entered into a partnership whereby the community industry places allocated to their respective areas are administesred from one unit. This has been done in order to cut overheads and reduce expenses normally met by the local authority.

The premises currently occupied by the Greenwich-Lewisham unit are situated to the south of Lewisham in an area which is due for redevelopment. The manager of the unit is now looking for alternative premises either in Greenwich or in Lewisham which would be well placed to serve both areas.
