HC Deb 06 April 1978 vol 947 c159W
Mr. Macfarlane

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement on his recent visit to Washington.

The Prime Minister

At President Carter's invitation I visited Washington for talks with him on 23rd March on a number of economic and political topics. To the extent that our talks concentrated on economic issues they should be seen as part of the preparation for the seven-nation Summit due to be held in Bonn in July. In particular, I made clear my belief, which is shared by President Carter, in the importance of consultation and co-ordination between individual Western nations on how to combat the common and related problems with which they are faced. We agreed that to this end these discussions should be carried forward in further meetings with the aim of establishing a balanced and common programme.
