HC Deb 06 April 1978 vol 947 c210W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what discussions took place between his Department and Lucas Aerospace before it declared its recent redundancies; what discussions have taken place with it in relation to the corporate plan drawn up by the shop stewards within Lucas Aerospace; what talks have been held between his Department and the trade unions in Lucas Aerospace; and whether the corporate plan has been discussed with them.

Mr. Les Huckfield

Representatives of the company's management advised the Department of their proposals for reorganisation of Lucas Aerospace on 14th March and met my hon. Friend the Minister of State for Industry on 15th March at his request. I understand that the company subsequently met the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions. The Government are also discussing with the Lucas group the range of regional incentives available to companies in the assisted area. With a view to encouraging detailed discussion between management and unions the corporate plan drawn up by the shop stewards in Lucas Aerospace has been raised on a number of occasions both with the company and the CSEU.
