§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will publish details of the boards, commissions, committees or other types of organisations established by his Department since October 1974, giving in each case the purpose of the organisation, the chairman's and members' salaries and expenses, and the total cost of the organisation for each year since 1974.
§ Mr. LuardThe only such organisation established by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office since October 1974 is an inquiry into the supply of petroleum and petroleum products to Rhodesia in breach of United Nations sanctions. The rates of remuneration agreed for its members, which are similar to those for company investigations undertaken by the Department of Trade, are as follows
Head of Inquiry, £100 per day.Assistant to Head of Inquiry £26.90 per hour.Adviser on petroleum affairs £25 per hour.In addition, a firm of chartered accountants has been retained by the group to provide administrative services. The total cost of the inquiry from its inception in May 1977 up to 31st March 1978 is £61,694.
