HC Deb 04 April 1978 vol 947 c86W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list in the Official Report the names of community relations councils in receipt of public funds provided by central Government, and indicate the amounts they have been allocated in the current year.

Mr. John

The Department gives no financial support directly to community relations councils. The Community Relations Commission had power under the Race Relations Act 1968 to give discretionary aid to community relations councils, and the names of the councils concerned and the amounts they received are shown in the Commission's annual reports. The Commission for Racial Equality has similar powers under the Race Relations Act 1976, and details of the aid given will be shown in its first annual report, to be published later this year.
