§ Mr. CryerThe following is the information requested:
(2) if he will publish in the Official Report the functions of the chief executive of the Clothing Industry Productivity Resources Agency;
(3) if he will publish in the Official Report when the Clothing Industry Productivity Resources Agency was first established, what are its terms of reference, and what is the size of its budget.
§ Mr. CryerThe Clothing Industry Productivity Resources Agency was incorporated on 8th December 1977. The first board meeting will be held on 5th April. The chairman of the board is Mr. Goodman, a director of Marks and Spencer and the board consists of representatives of the Clothing EDC together with representatives of workers and employers in the knitting industry. No work has yet been set in hand.
The functions to be undertaken by the Chief Executive are a matter for the CIPRA Board to decide.
The Agency's terms of reference given to it by the Clothing EDC are as follows:
To promote improved performance and productivity in the clothing industry; to provide information and expert advice to companies on scientific and technological matters connected with clothing productivity.The Department has agreed to provide up to £450,000 towards the cost of setting up and running the agency for the first five years. It is a condition that after about the third year the Department's contribution must be matched by the agency's earnings from the industry.
