HL Deb 26 October 1977 vol 386 c1231WA
Baroness HORNSBY-SMITH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of garments and household textiles purchased by the Prison Service are of foreign origin.

The MINISTER OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Harris of Greenwich)

Most garments and household textiles used in the Prison Service in England and Wales are made in prison workshops. Of the remainder, all those purchased centrally in the last two financial years have been manufactured within the United Kingdom. Information is not available for the small number purchased locally.
