HL Deb 26 October 1977 vol 386 cc1230-1WA
Lord KILLEARN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much the price of chiropodists' services has risen over the last 5, 10, 15 and 20 years: and how this compares with the rise in price of other similar services and of the retail price index over the same periods.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

I regret that information is not available about fees charged by chiropodists for private treatment. Since April 1962 there have been NHS fees for each treatment of individual patients by chiropodists not employed on a contract of service, and these are set out below for the dates requested together with the retail price index for the same month. There are no other services which offer obvious comparisons.

Chiropodist Surgery Domiciliary Retail Prices Index
Date Fee Fee (January 1962=100)
April 1962 £0.37½ £0.62½ 101.9
January 1967 £0.52½ £0.85 118.5
April 1972 £0.84 £1.32 161.8
April 1977 £2.03 £3.37 345.8
