HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c857W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is yet able to make a statement on the future of the three new towns in the North-East.

Mr. Guy Barnett:

On 29th July 1977, my right hon. Friend announced that further discussions would take place with the development corporations and local authorities concerned on the future programme of the three North-East new towns of Aycliffe, Peterlee and Washington and on arrangements for winding up the development corporations in the early 1980s. These meetings are now being held; when they are complete my right hon. Friend will announce firm proposals.
