HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c702W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if, in view of the disappointing response of manufacturers, particularly those of electrical appliances, to the recommendation of the Price Commission that they should abandon recommending prices, he will now take steps to make illegal the use of the term "manufacturers' recommended price"; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclennan:

The Price Commission Act 1977 gives my right hon. Friend powers to regulate the use of recommended retail prices in particular sectors following an examination carried out by the Price Commission. In the light of the material contained in the Commission's general report on this subject, he is considering whether to direct the Commission to examine further one or more sectors where the practice appears to be prevalent.
