HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc876-7W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the total expenditure of the Health and Safety Executive on laboratory equipment and apparatus in accounting periods ended 31st March 1976 and 31st March 1977; and what percentage of this expenditure relates to equipment for the Cricklewood laboratory

Mr. John Grant:

The total capital expenditure of the Health and Safety Executive in the two years ended 31st March 1977 was about £1,351,000 of which equipment for Cricklewood laboratories amounted to 42 per cent. These figures exclude expenditure on items of equipment which individually cost less than £100, consumable materials and maintenance services.

Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many area offices have been established by the Health and Safety Executive; where each area office has been located; how many industry groups have been established in each of those areas; what are the industries covered by each group in each area; how many factories it has been estimated that each group is responsible for; and how many inspectors were attached to each group on 1st July 1977.

Mr. John Grant:

Twenty-one area offices have been opened by the Health and Safety Executive; I have written to the hon. Member giving the details he seeks, and a copy of the detailed information has been placed in the Library.

Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the total income of the Health and Safety Executive in accounting periods ended 31st March 1976 and 31st March 1977 arising out of lectures given by the staff and members of the Health and Safety Executive.

Mr. John Grant:
